Nicola’s story – respite care in sad times

Nicola receives respite care for her mild learning disabilities and has agreed to share her story after a family bereavement.
A family bereavement
Nicola was due to have her first stay at Crescent Dale in early January but sadly her mum had passed away and her father was reluctant to send her to Crescent Dale.
Nicola said that she really wanted to visit, see some old friends, make new ones, and have fun as this would take her mind off recent events. Nicola’s father was reassured that she would be in the best care and she would have a fantastic time.
A surprise spa
Staff wanted Nicola to have a brilliant first stay at Crescent Dale, they made sure that her stay was very person-centred and tailored to what she would like to do so the staff decided to make her activities a surprise!
The staff surprised Nicola with a spa voucher to use at the ‘Crescent Dale’ spa. She had a choice of various treatments to choose from and her wonderful day was finished with a delicious afternoon tea.
Nicola mentioned that this was her first every afternoon tea and she was so shocked and excited when she found out.
Fun activities
During Nicola’s stay, she did a wide range of activities involving; crafts, cooking demonstrations, making her own meals, walking and she wrote everything she did during her stay on the whiteboard for all to see.
Nicola said that she had a fantastic stay at Crescent Dale and she couldn’t wait to go home and tell her dad all about it and that she couldn’t wait to come back for another stay!
