School Offer Day delight for local families

It’s National Offer Day for secondary school places around the country – and almost 96 per cent of families in Kirklees have been successfully matched to one of their preferred schools.

Over 5,500 children will be starting secondary school in Kirklees in 2021 and new figures show that 4,743 families (85.4 per cent of applicants) secured a place at their first-choice school, with 428 (7.7 per cent) and 142 (2.6 per cent) gaining places at their second and third choices respectively.

Cllr Carole Pattison, Cabinet member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said:

“One of our biggest priorities is to ensure children and young people enjoy the best start in life. We are pleased that, once again, the overwhelming majority of Kirklees families have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

Moving to secondary school is a big step, so we wish all of these children the very best with their transition. They will have access to good-quality learning and can look forward to exciting new opportunities.

The last year has been incredibly tough for children and young people all over the country, most of whom have had to miss long periods at school due to national lockdowns. Supporting home learning has also been a big challenge for many parents, and we look forward to schools being able to operate normally as soon as possible.

We have an excellent relationship with our family of schools and we are proud of the work they do, not only in a world affected by Covid but at all times. They provide high standards of care and education, helping our children to aspire and achieve.”
