Fostering in Kirklees – be that special someone

We are joining forces with other local authorities in Yorkshire to encourage more people to find out about fostering.

By fostering with your local council, you can play a huge part in ensuring children and young people can stay in their home area, at their school and near their family and friends.

A special online event will be held on Wednesday March 17th (6pm) and is open to everyone. It will be a great chance to chat with existing foster carers in the region, plus fostering teams, and have all your questions answered.

Cllr Viv Kendrick, Cabinet member for Children, said:

“The Covid-19 pandemic has led to disruption for many families, so foster care for vulnerable children is more vital than ever.

Carers make a profound difference in the lives of looked after children and we truly value their hard work and commitment. At the same time, we need more to come forward and help us reduce the number of children being cared for outside the area.

Our goal is to have enough of our own foster carers to provide loving homes for all our children and young people. When this isn’t possible, children can be moved away from everything that is familiar to them at an already distressing time in their lives.

We’re pleased to be teaming up with our friends from other councils and offering this brilliant opportunity for people to find out more. By being that special someone, you can make a huge difference to the future of our children and young people.”

Kirklees foster carers receive expert training, a weekly allowance and a vast network of support, including from specialist workers.
