Coming together to feed communities in hard times

A thank you from Jane Dutton, church warden at St Michael’s and St Helen’s Church

It’s been a busy 6 months!

‘Franco’s Friday’ began 12 months ago in the first full lockdown when Ben, of The Barn in Almondbury, started cooking meals for people in need.

A year later, a staggering 2,682 meals were provided along with Ben’s mouthwatering puds, fresh fruit, soft drinks and various other goodies. In addition, 225 Christmas Dinners and goodie bags were distributed on Christmas Eve!

Success down to community support

All this was made possible by the tremendous amount of time and hard work that Ben put in and the incredible generosity of donations from friends, customers, businesses, suppliers and the local community.

Thank you to Community Plus

We would also like to thank Mary Fox, our Almondbury Community Co-ordinator for all her help and ongoing support. Together, we reached the families and individuals who needed our help.

An anonymous food bank user said: “I would like to say thank you for the support you have given us, you were the only other person I saw most of lockdown.”

Smash Food Share launched

‘Franco’s Friday’ ended at Easter, but times are still very tough for many people, so we launched Smash Food Share on 9th April – a local food bank for local people.

Can you help?

If you can help with donations of non-perishable food items or toiletries, please drop them off at St Michael’s and St Helen’s Church, Fleminghouse Lane, Almondbury.

The food bank is open every Friday 09:30 to 13:00.
