“You are welcome here” – a message to Ukrainian refugees

Kirklees Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities has issued the below message to the people fleeing Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country.

Councillor Carole Pattison, Cabinet Member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said: “The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the developing situation is of a huge concern to us at Kirklees Council. My thoughts are with everyone impacted and particularly the people of Ukraine who are facing such devastation.

“Kirklees is a place of welcome and we have a very proud history when it comes to supporting individuals and families who are seeking safety and this will be no different.

“We want to help those who have had their lives uprooted and we will work with our West Yorkshire neighbours and the government to support the programmes that will inevitably be needed as the crisis unfolds.

“The positive response we’ve seen from Kirklees residents is nothing short of amazing as it always is when it comes to supporting others in times of need. Our message to refugees fleeing Ukraine is that you are welcome here.”
