Candidates confirmed for Kirklees Council elections May 2022

A full list of candidates standing in the Kirklees Council local elections on 5 May 2022 is now available.

The deadline to submit nominations closed at 4pm on Tuesday 5 April. You can  view the list of candidates standing in each of the 23 Kirklees wards by visiting: Statement of persons nominated 2022 | Kirklees Council.

A third of all 69 seats are up for election with one seat in all of Kirklees’ 23 wards going to the polls. The council is currently in no overall control with Labour (33 seats), Conservative (19 seats), Liberal Democrat (nine seats), Green (three seats), Holme Valley Independents (three seats) and other Independents (two seats).

Of the seats up for election this year, Labour hold 11, Conservative six, Lib Dem four, Holme Valley Independents one and Green one.

The election count will be taking place on Friday 6 May from 8.45am, with results to be announced live throughout the day on Kirklees Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages. A full round-up of the results will also be published on Kirklees Council’s website.

In order to vote in May’s local elections, you need to be registered to vote. The deadline to apply is midnight 14 April 2022. Read more information, check if you’re registered already or register to vote now on Kirklees Council’s website.

If you don’t want to or can’t visit a Polling Station to vote this year, you can vote by post. The deadline to apply is 5pm 19 April 2022.

You can apply for somebody to vote on your behalf, also known as a proxy. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm 26 April 2022.
