Fire safety event targets retirement living tenants

The team sat with residents

Our Homes and Neighbourhoods team have been spreading the Be Fire Safe message to tenants in Bradley, Huddersfield.

The fire safety team visited Brooklands retirement living scheme. The visit was part of a campaign aimed at reminding tenants how to stay safe in their homes.

The team talked to tenants about the work Homes and Neighbourhoods do to keep residents safe. The team also encouraged tenants to be more fire aware.

It comes as residents of Brooklands have recently had new tumble dryers for communal use requiring extra fire safety measures. Everyone at the retirement living scheme was reminded how to clean the dryers’ filters before every use to reduce the risk of fire.

Leaflets were also handed out to tenants highlighting the risks associated with smoking, candles, and kitchen safety in the home. As well as advice about electrical appliances and the importance of smoke alarms.

Tenants and leaseholders were also reminded about what to do in case of fire and how to evacuate. They also had the chance to express any concerns or ask any questions.

The fire safety team have been visiting retirement living schemes across the whole of Kirklees and are planning more sessions for those who were not able to attend.
