Communities in Kirklees are preparing to celebrate the platinum jubilee weekend in style

Communities in Kirklees are preparing to celebrate the platinum jubilee weekend in style with a range of events across the district.
We are encouraging residents to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by publishing local events, activities and party ideas on our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee page.
We will also host events at Greenhead Park, Oakwell Hall, Dewsbury Town Hall, light the Castle Hill beacon, and fly special Jubilee flags at all our Town Hall buildings in Kirklees.
What’s on in Kirklees?
Here are details of some key events taking place:
The lighting of the Beacon – Castle Hill
Thursday 2 June: Beacon lighting at 9.45pm
It is a tradition across the UK to light beacons to mark momentous occasions and the Queen’s Jubilee is no exception. Join us at Huddersfield’s much loved iconic landmark – Castle Hill – for the lighting of the beacon.
In the run up to the lighting there will be musical performances by Musica Brass Quartet at 9.15pm -9.35pm followed by a piper playing “Diu Regnare” at 9.35pm. A special bugle call ‘Majesty’ will be played at 9.40pm before the beacon lighting at 9.45pm, which will be conducted by the Mayor of Kirklees, supported by the Scouts. Honley Ladies Choir, Cleckheaton Community Choir and Almondbury Choir will be performing ‘A song for the Commonwealth’ during the lighting of the beacon.
Please note: We are encouraging residents to come and enjoy the beacon lighting event at Castle Hill, but ask that residents walk to the event site, in order to prevent congestion on the surrounding roads.
