Watch out for scammers

Tenants are being warned after reports of scam calls have been made in Kirklees, claiming to be from the ‘Kirklees housing compliance team’.

The calls are automated and are suggesting there is an open case for a disrepair on the council’s system, the voice then asks you to answer yes or no by pressing 1 or 2.

It has also been reported they are using another number to send texts relating to the same thing. Both phone numbers that the calls and texts are coming from are not associated with the council.

We would like to remind tenants that all council housing repair jobs inside your home are always carried out by appointment only.

You will also receive a text reminder on the day of the repair to make you aware that the tradesperson is coming, and they will always show ID before gaining entry to your home.

Under no circumstances would any council worker request money for a repair. Tenants are urged to be vigilant for anyone asking for payment.

If you want to know if a phone call you have received is legitimate, please contact the repairs team on 01484 414800. They will be able to advise you accordingly.
