Yorkshire Day
Monday 1 August is Yorkshire Day which gives the people a chance to celebrate living, working or visiting our great county.
What is happening?
Events are taking place across the region, with Keighley hosting the Official Yorkshire Day celebrations – the first time this has happened in two years.
Huddersfield Town Hall will also be flying the Yorkshire flag on Monday 1 August.
What is Yorkshire Day?
Yorkshire Day was first celebrated in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society, beginning as part of a protest movement against local government reforms that came into force in 1974.
The Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Massod Ahmed, said:
“We have a lot to celebrate in our great county from stunning scenery and thriving businesses to our proud heritage and welcoming communities.
“People in Kirklees and the whole of the county have a great sense of pride in the place where they grew up in, live and work and Yorkshire Day gives everyone the chance to show this.”
