Inspiring the next generation

Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT graduates

Could you change lives by becoming a teacher?

We’re holding events to answer all your questions, provide a full understanding of your options and guide you towards teaching in a primary or secondary school. Whether you’re at university, a career changer or already working in a school, we can help.

Teachers play a major role in inspiring children and young people and providing them with the best start in life.

Our teacher training programme has already supported hundreds of people to secure work in local schools. Join us on Thursday November 24 – it could be the best thing you’ve ever done.

What to expect

  • Information about the routes into teaching, entry criteria and application process
  • Understanding of our programme and the day-to-day life of a trainee
  • Opportunity to ask questions and find support regarding your application, personal statement etc
  • If you’re thinking of changing careers and want to see what school life is really like, we can support you to gain some school experience

The events take place at 4pm and 5pm and are organised by Kirklees and Calderdale School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT). The venue is the KCSCITT Training Centre, Leeds Old Road, Heckmondwike, WF16 9BB.

Why choose our training programme?

People who join a school-based teacher training route benefit from working in a school right from the start, instead of being based in a Higher Education setting.

SCITT is a comprehensive programme which has been highly successful in developing excellent teachers.  Trainees are in school from the first day of term, four days a week, with one day at the central training venue.

This year’s SCITT graduates recently completed their first half-term as teachers in our local schools. They joined together with family and friends at the University of Huddersfield for a formal ceremony to celebrate their achievements.

There is lots more information on the SCITT website.  You can also email kcscitt@kirklees.gov.uk or call 01484 221177.
