We are pleased to let you know that the A62 Smart Corridor works are progressing well and still expect the work to be complete in Spring 2023.

The work aims to tackle this route’s issues with congestion, slow journey times and poor air quality, as well as safety.  This project is part of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) Corridor Improvement Programme. The project is funded by WYCA and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The extensive programme has been underway for some time and some elements have been completed such as the work to Bradley Mills junction, the junction of Hillhouse Lane, Thistle Street and the A62.

Work will continue but be scaled back over the Christmas period to minimise disruption to shoppers and businesses.

Councillor Eric Firth, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

“I am happy to hear that the A62 Leeds Road project is progressing well, and I am sure residents and businesses will be pleased to hear this too.

Good transport infrastructure is vital if our local economy is going to grow over the coming years. The much-needed improvements will help improve reliability and safety along this key route.

There is still work to do, but this work will positively contribute to our goals of quicker, more reliable journeys for all whilst reducing carbon by making sustainable travel a viable option through providing much better cycling, walking, and bus links.”

A traffic management system is still in place, reducing the A62 carriageway to one lane in some areas. We are working to maximise capacity at junctions where possible. When temporary closures are in operation, diversion routes will be used and well-signposted.

Our contractor, Colas, can be contacted with any questions or concerns through the ‘Hello Worx’ (Or Hello Travaux) app. The app can be downloaded to any smartphone or tablet through an app store.
