Cabinet approves plans to consult residents on future of retirement living scheme in Golcar

Sycamore Grange

Cabinet discussed plans for the future of Sycamore Grange. A two-storey building of 40 flats built in the 1970s and operated by the council.

A proposal to engage with residents on the redevelopment of Sycamore Grange was approved. The proposal comes as the council looks to address building safety issues in the long term. Although the council is currently taking action to manage the risks within the building, it is not sustainable in the longer term.

Now the proposal is approved, council officers will engage with residents and their families on the redevelopment and moving-out process. There will be no immediate changes, and dedicated officers will provide support to ensure the needs of all residents are met.

Councillor Cathy Scott, Cabinet Member for Housing and Democracy, said:

“The safety of our residents remains our priority. While work has, and continues to, be done to keep the building safe, options must be explored to make sure the safety of the building is maintained in the long term.”

Councillor Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said:

“We are committed to enhancing our social housing capacity, and ensuring those most in need have the best facilities we can provide. This opportunity for redevelopment is another example of our ambitious plans to provide much-needed services and homes for our residents.”
