Celebrating the Coronation weekend in Kirklees
Communities in Kirklees are preparing to celebrate the Coronation with a range of events across the district this Bank Holiday weekend.
We have planned a variety of events for the upcoming Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen Consort this Bank Holiday weekend; these include live screenings of the Coronation, the launch of Kirklees Year of Music’s (KYOM) Bands in Parks, and a wide range of family-friendly events.
What’s on in Kirklees?
Libraries across the district are hosting celebratory events on Saturday 6 May, with many showing coverage of the Coronation alongside refreshments and children’s craft activities.
Parks and museums across Kirklees have something for everyone to enjoy, with a range of free activities taking place over the weekend. From a Gem trail and photobooth at the Tolson Museum to KYOM’s Bands in Parks at Beaumont Park.
Although the deadline for road closure requests for street parties has passed, everyone is welcome to gather with their friends, families, and neighbours for a cup of tea and picnic, as part of the Big Coronation Picnic at their local park.
In addition to the official council celebrations, there are a number of community-led events including afternoon teas and Big Help Outs.

We’re encouraging all residents celebrating the King’s Coronation to tag Kirklees Council in photos of your celebrations on social media throughout the weekend.
