Applications are now open for this year’s Housing Growth and Regeneration Graduate Trainee. The programme welcomes applications from graduates with a degree in any discipline, so whether you are fresh out of Uni, or graduated a while back, you may either be a current employee in the council, either way, we would love to hear from you.

What is the GEM Programme?

The GEM (Graduate Employment Mentoring) Programme lasts 12 months and during this time GEMs attend a number of experiential learning events throughout the UK designed and facilitated by the GEM team; they build their network across the sector, and they complete the Chartered Institute of Housing level 4 qualification.

Kirklees has an ambitious housing development programme to deliver sustainable and mixed communities across the district. The Housing Growth Team are responsible for delivering the district’s ambitious Housing Growth plan on its own sites, alongside privately owned sites by collaborating with key partners, services, developers, and funders to unlock sites and build a mix of new homes including affordable, specialist and market housing, and promoting low carbon technologies and modern methods of construction.

Think you have what it takes?

This role focuses on supporting the work of the Housing Growth and Regeneration Team. The applicant would work across multi-disciplinary project teams and play a key role in the delivery of these projects. Typically, this role works across a number of Council departments, with elected members and with external partners deal with all facets of the housing development process.

Support is given throughout from a team of experienced and imaginative colleagues; the role gives the opportunity to work on a range of projects with a focus on site development and gaining project management skills. There will be a particular emphasis on learning about sites, assessing housing needs, and helping to secure planning permission and supporting the procurement of development partners.
