Kirklees Suicide Memorial and Bereavement Quilts Roadshow
The Kirklees Suicide Memorial and Bereavement Quilts Roadshow will be unveiled at Ravensthorpe Community Centre on Saturday 10 June at 11 am.
Hundreds of people in Yorkshire have contributed to the special memorial quilts.
Each unique quilt is an ongoing memorial and reminder of the person who has passed on.
The suicide memorial quilt is made up of unique hand crafted squares – each one lovingly created by someone bereaved by suicide. The bereavement memorial quilt is also made up of individual pieces to honour the life and legacy of a loved one.
As well as displaying these beautiful quilts, the roadshow venues listed below will host specialised workshops, speakers, trainers and mental health support will be available.
Anna Scott, Director of Yorkshire Speak Their Name said:
“The quilt is such a beautiful poignant reminder that there is still a lot of work to do around suicide prevention. There’s so much love and sadness in every square.
Karen Sykes Director of Yorkshire Speak Their Name said:
“Sadly the quilt will grow and grow but at the same time it is providing a much needed connection between those people who need to engage with others who understand the challenges and complexities that come with this kind of loss.”
Councillor Musarrat Khan, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care said:
“Our aim is that this roadshow will bring together people in Kirklees to share lived experiences, help reduce stigma around suicide, encourage conversations and reduce isolation for those affected by suicide.”
Anyone can come along to the venues listed below to view the quilts or take part in the activities on offer.
