Civic Service to welcome the new mayor

Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Cahal Burke, welcome dignitaries at St Patrick’s Church

The newly appointed Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Cahal Burke, welcome dignitaries and guests to the Civic Service to mark the start of his mayoral year for 2023-2024.

The service, which is to bless the new mayor’s term in office, took place at St Patrick’s Church and was led by the Mayor’s Chaplains Revd Father Martin Kelly and Revd Canon Rachel Firth.

Cllr Burke said

“I would like to thank all the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Ed Anderson, Mayors from other Borough’s in the county and dignitaries who came and showed their support,”

“My thanks also go to everyone involved in the organisation of the Civic Service and to my Chaplains and Cadets.”

“It is an honour to become the first citizen of Kirklees and one I take enormous pride in.”

“We have a lot to celebrate and be proud of in the borough and I hope to showcase this throughout my year.”

The mayor has already attended several public engagements including a visit to the new A&E department at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and opening of the Paraffinalia exhibition to commemorate the 75th Windrush anniversary.
