Diabetes Week 2023

Diabetes Week, 12-18 June 2023

This week is Diabetes Week and we are working together with health partners to provide free information and testing in locations across Kirklees.

In Kirklees around 27,000 residents are estimated to be living with type 2 diabetes. There are also people in Kirklees who are pre-diabetic and are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Most people are not aware of their diabetes status until they are tested. Being diagnosed early is important for all types of diabetes. It can save lives, prevent a medical emergency, and reduce the risk of life-changing complications later.

Councillor Musarrat Khan, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care said:

Diabetes information sessions listed below: 

  • Tuesday 13 June, 12:30pm-2:30pm – Cleckheaton Library, Whitcliffe Road, Cleckheaton BD19 3DX
  • Wednesday 14 June, 12.30pm-2.30pm – Howden Clough Community Centre, Leeds Road, Birstall, Batley WF17 0HY
  • Thursday 15 June, 10am-1pm – Al Hikmah, Al Hikmah Centre, 28, Track Road, Batley, WF17 7AA
  • Friday 16 June, 9.30am-12.30pm – Firth Park, Westgate, Heckmondwike WF16 0HH

  • Friday 16 June, 11am-1pm – The Chestnut Centre, 2a Chestnut Street, Deighton, Huddersfield HD2 1HJ
  • Friday 23 June, 11am-1pm – FOCAL, New Hey Road, Salendine Nook, Huddersfield HD3 4BZ
  • Friday 30 June, 11am-1pm – Birkby Library, Wasp Nest Road, Huddersfield HD1 6EY

The Kirklees Wellness Service can also provide support and advice around diabetes and healthy eating. If you are concerned about your diabetes status and cannot attend any of the above events you should contact your GP surgery.
