Celebrating the major milestone of 75 years of the NHS

NHS big tea

On 5 July, the NHS will mark its 75th anniversary and people are being encouraged to show their appreciation by taking part in the celebrations.

Mayor shows his support

The Mayor of Kirklees Councillor Cahal Burke is supporting the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity as one of his chosen charities, alongside the Royal Air Force Association.

He will be raising awareness of the NHS Big Tea and other events to mark the anniversary.

Those working in all aspects of the NHS work tirelessly to help and assist people in the Borough,” said Cllr Burke.

“The 24/7 care they provide continues to evolve and adapt so people of all ages are given the necessary support they need.

“It is important we show our appreciation to all the incredible staff.

“On behalf of Kirklees, I would like to thank all the NHS staff, both past and present, for the invaluable work you have done and continue to do.”

Carol McKenna, place based lead for the Kirklees Health and Care Partnership, said:

“The NHS revolutionised healthcare when it was introduced in 1948: the first universal health system, free at the point of delivery. Those principles remain as relevant, and valued, today.

“We are grateful for the support of the Mayor of Kirklees as this will help us continue to innovate and deliver services through the NHS, helping everyone in Kirklees and Calderdale that needs our support.

“This support will help our hospitals work together with the Council, social care providers, charities and other third sector organisations to putting patient’s needs at the heart of everything we do – and helping us meet the needs of the next 75 years.”

The NHS Big Tea

People across the UK are being invited to celebrate 75 years of the NHS this summer – and raise funds for NHS charities by hosting their own NHS Big Tea party.

Whether you get together at home, in the office, at your community centre or even in your school, you can celebrate on the 75th birthday of the NHS – Wednesday 5 July – or any day that week.
