Six prestigious Green Flag Awards for our parks
We’re delighted to have retained Green Flag Awards for six parks and greenspaces across the district, recognising them as some of the country’s best parks.
The Green Flag Awards, which sets the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world has been awarded to:
- Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury
- Beaumont Park, Crosland Moor
- Greenhead Park, Huddersfield
- Almondbury Hill Fort, Castle Hill
- Wilton Park, Batley
- Oakwell Hall Country Park, Birstall
Oakwell Hall Country Park has also retained its Green Heritage Award.
Parks and green spaces provide a destination for people to relax, exercise and meet friends and family, as well as enjoy events. A number of our parks have hosted events already this summer. With some yet to come including Bands in the Parks as part of Kirklees Year of Music.
Councillor Masood Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment said:
“Retaining our Green Flag Awards for our parks and green spaces in Kirklees demonstrates the Council’s commitment to the upkeep and maintenance of these important public spaces for our communities to enjoy.
These awards are a credit to all staff and volunteers who work hard to maintain high standards in all our parks and greenspaces. I hope our residents continue to enjoy our parks, which are not only vital for everyone’s health and wellbeing but provide a haven for wildlife and biodiversity, and help our staff keep them in pristine condition.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE said:
