Recycling Hero Awards Nominations are Open!

We are holding our second Recycling Hero Awards to celebrate the sustainable superstars of Kirklees.
We’re asking residents to nominate friends, family members, colleagues, young people, schools, or businesses who are setting the benchmark when it comes to reducing, reusing, and recycling in Kirklees.
This year there are five awards categories;
- Recycling Hero
- Young Recycling Hero
- School Recycling Hero
- Business Recycling Hero
- New for this year Recycling Champion Hero.
Recycling Champions are a registered group of volunteers who promote recycling and reducing waste to help create a better environment. More information about what they do and how to get involved can be found on the Recycling Champion page of our website.
Councillor Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Culture and Greener Kirklees, said:
“With the ever-present threat of climate change, it is more important than ever to encourage people to take action to help make Kirklees carbon neutral. I really enjoyed being part of the first Recycling Hero Awards last year, where I was blown away by the fantastic nominees in attendance.
“I know that there are many people in our communities who are an inspiration when it comes to reducing, reusing, and recycling, so make sure you get your nominations in before 20 October so that we can celebrate them.”
Councillor Masood Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:
“I am pleased that the Recycling Hero Awards are back for 2023 as they allow us to recognise those who are leading the way when it comes to recycling and inspire us all to do more.
“Last year, when I presented the awards as Mayor of Kirklees, I was inspired to see the diversity in the room. From the young people to the businesses, big and small, all determined to make a positive contribution to their local community.”
How can you nominate someone?
Anyone wishing to submit a nomination needs to fill out a short online form, including a statement of no more than 200 words to explain why your nominee should win one of the five awards. Nominations close on 20 October, no nominations will be accepted after this date.
When will the awards take place?
All shortlisted nominees will be invited to Dewsbury Town Hall on 22 November, where the winners will be announced, and awards for winners and runners-up will be presented by the Mayor of Kirklees.
