Plans continue to develop Buxton House, a high-rise block located in the centre of Huddersfield. Draft designs have now been put together for the project.

What’s the plan?

The proposed plans include a mixture of new one and two bed apartments. The scheme will also have an enhanced resident’s ground floor lobby area with the entrance on Albion Street and a new high-speed lift stopping at every floor.

These proposals come after we engaged with residents in 2021, and a decision was made by Cabinet and the residents living at Buxton House. This included that the block would undergo a complete remodelling to improve fire safety measures and provide better living spaces.

Councillor Cathy Scott, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Democracy, said:

“I’m pleased we are moving on to the next stage to remodel Buxton House and have draft designs in place.

“The designs have been put together with tenant safety being the top priority and to provide quality housing in the heart of Huddersfield. Each apartment and communal area will be completely renovated, and fire safety measures improved across the block.

“Hearing the opinions of residents living at Buxton House will help provide the best living space for our tenants that meets their needs and expectations.”

Consultation event

We are working with contractor AHR to hold a consultation event at Buxton House. Residents will have the opportunity to see the draft plans and share their views to help shape the future of the block.
