Kirklees Integrated Dementia Meeting Centre Pilot

What’s happening?

We are running a free pilot Dementia Meeting Centres programme. The programme is in partnership with the University of Huddersfield and Kirklees Dementia Hub aimed at people living with mild to moderate dementia in Kirklees.

Meetings Centres are social hubs where people living with dementia, carers and families can access friendly, community-based support, designed around their individual needs. They provide a social space where people can meet others and take part in activities they enjoy.

The pilot will run for 12 weeks from 2 October to 18 December 2023 in Slaithwaite on Tuesdays for up to 20 people. People are welcome to bring snacks and light refreshments will be made available throughout the session.

What will happen on the day?

It’s a 2-hour session 11am-1pm incorporating breaks.  Activities will be underpinned by a person-centred approach and will include things that stimulate cognitive function, promote self-expression and improve physical wellbeing.  There will be lots of fun and opportunities for social interaction.

Attendees can speak to other associated health and social care professionals, i.e. Kirklees Dementia Hub, Social Prescribing Link Workers, benefits advice and more.
