Significant progress with new Extra Care housing in Ashbrow
Progress continues at Ashbrow’s new housing development, with 50 new apartments dedicated to helping people with extra care needs live independently.
Construction is currently on track, and the final roof tiles on the west wing of this project have recently been laid.
Ash View is the fourth Extra Care scheme in Kirklees. This scheme will provide 50 top-quality flats, which include specially adapted units for wheelchair users, to bring inclusive and essential housing solutions for older residents with additional needs.
Extra care schemes are groups of self-contained homes alongside shared communal facilities, such as shared areas and a vibrant communal hub, bringing residents together.
The scheme in Ashbrow will be owned and managed by the council, with the construction undertaken by contractors Equans Regeneration, who have supported engagement with residents and partners.
Councillor Moses Crook, Cabinet Member for Housing and Highways, said:
“The journey to this point has been a real challenge for everyone involved, and I am very pleased that Ash View will soon be ready to welcome its first residents. This development is a vital step in our ongoing efforts to provide high-quality, accessible housing in Kirklees. It represents our vision where every resident can access comfortable and suitable housing to support independent living for as long as possible.”
Sean Corcoran, Regional Director at Equans, added:
“We’re really pleased to reach such a significant milestone on this development. Extra Care housing has so many benefits for residents – enabling them to live independently for as long as possible, whilst accessing support as and when they need it – so we’re delighted to be able to use our expertise to help the council create a development of this kind in Kirklees. I’m sure it will be very popular with local people.”
We remain committed to future projects that will continue to improve the quality of life for residents. Ash View is expected to be completed by Winter 2024.
