Feeling flushed as new Changing Places Toilets to be installed for residents in Kirklees

Changing places

We will begin installation of two new modular Changing Places Toilets this month. The facilities will be fitted at Greenhead Park and Oakwell Hall and work will be completed by the end of April.

What is a Changing Places Toilet?

A Changing Places Toilet is an all-in-one facility that caters to the needs of people who are not able to use the toilet independently.  The modular Changing Places Toilets will include a ceiling-mounted hoist, changing bench, peninsular toilet, height adjustable basin, mobile privacy screen, and grab rails to support people using the facility. The facilities allow users to maintain their independence and dignity when out and about in our parks.

Councillor Jackie Ramsay, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care said:

“It is great to see the installation begin for the Changing Places Toilets in Greenhead Park and Oakwell Hall. This is an important facility for people who cannot use a toilet on their own enabling them to live confident and independent lives.

“These facilities are a lifeline for people and their carers who often must choose between going out and staying at home because of their needs. This work also aims to tackle inequalities and create more inclusive spaces and communities whilst enabling people with disabilities to be more independent in their everyday life.”

Councillor Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Finance and Regeneration said:

The modular Changing Places Toilets will create a buzz within the community. Having these new toilets forms part of the council’s wider review of existing changing places facilities and I hope that the installation of modular Changing Places Toilets at Greenhead Park and Oakwell Hall will attract visitors who may not usually come. Making Kirklees places and spaces more accessible will not only support residents but will also support a thriving local economy.”
