Changing lives one child at a time
Our foster care awards ceremony brought together over 50 guests to celebrate the remarkable difference foster carers make to the lives of children and young people.
The awards ceremony was to honour the selfless work of foster carers, with certificates and gift vouchers being presented in appreciation of their years spent nurturing children and providing loving homes.
There was a special mention and flowers presented to Brenda Whitworth, who has been fostering with Kirklees Council for an incredible 39 years.
The event was part of national Foster Care Fortnight and was also an opportunity for carers to connect, share experiences and discuss the challenges, joys and complexities of their vital role.

As one foster carer said:
“Being a foster carer is both challenging and rewarding. We’re honoured to be part of this supportive community, where we witness the transformation of young lives. The emotional impact is immeasurable.”
Tom Brailsford, Strategic Director for Children and Families said:
“Fostering can be a life-changing experience, not only for children but for carers too. It is wonderful to learn about all the stories of lives transformed.
“The Fostering Awards honour this incredible dedication and selflessness of our foster carers, who open their hearts and homes to children in need.”
We are always looking for new foster carers to play a role in supporting the well-being and safety of our children and young people.
Fostering through the council means you are supporting children to stay in their local area, close to their schools, friends and family.
