Recycling Hero Awards Nominations are Open!
Nominations are now open for the Recycling Hero Awards, as we look to residents to celebrate the borough’s sustainable superstars.
What are the Recycling Hero Awards?
Back for its third year, we’re once again asking residents to nominate friends, family members, colleagues, young people, schools, or businesses who are setting the benchmark when it comes to reducing, reusing, and recycling in Kirklees.
What are the categories?
New for 2024 is the People’s Choice Award. Everyone shortlisted for the four main categories, Recycling Hero, Young Recycling Hero, School Recycling Hero, and Business Recycling Hero, will automatically be entered into the People’s Choice Award. A public vote will then follow, which will be publicised on our social media channels in October.
Councillor Yusra Hussain, Cabinet Member for Culture and Greener Kirklees, said:
“The council’s vision is for Kirklees to have zero avoidable waste by 2038; but that requires action, not only from the council but from residents, businesses, and organisations across the borough. We need your help in finding and celebrating the sustainable superstars of Kirklees by nominating them for one of our four Recycling Hero awards.
“I really enjoyed being part of the Recycling Hero Awards last year, where I was blown away by the fantastic nominees in attendance.
“We know there are many people in our communities who are an inspiration when it comes to reducing, reusing, and recycling. So, whether you know a Recycling Hero or believe you could be one, don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the sustainable superstars of Kirklees!”
How do I nominate?
Anyone wishing to submit a nomination for themselves or anyone else, simply needs to fill out a short online form including a statement of no more than 200 words to explain why your nominee should win one of the awards. Nominations close on Friday 27 September, nominations will not be accepted after this date.
When is the awards ceremony?
All shortlisted nominees will be invited to Dewsbury Town Hall in November, where the winners will be announced, and awards for winners and runners-up will be presented by the Mayor of Kirklees.
This year the Recycling Hero Awards are made possible by the generosity of sponsors, The Grapevine Magazine, Leafield, Revive, Suez, and MAH Expediting and Inspection Services Ltd.
