Ask Meltham 2024: shaping the future

Ask Meltham 2024

Along with Meltham Town Council we’re inviting people in Meltham to get involved in Ask Meltham 2024. Anyone who lives in, works in or visits Meltham, Helme or Wilshaw can take part in new activities to share how they feel about their local place.

Ask Meltham 2024 is the 30th ‘How good is our place?’ activity in Kirklees. These activities use a tool called the Place Standard, which is a way of having meaningful conversations about any local place – it could be your street, neighbourhood or town. Kirklees Council supports local organisations and councillors to host these conversations in communities across Kirklees.

The activities in Meltham are being run by Meltham Town Council and dedicated local volunteers, with our support. Meltham is the first community in Kirklees to use this approach for a second time around. This means that participants can reflect on the progress made since Ask Meltham 2019, as well as sharing hopes and ideas for the future.

How to get involved

Everyone who has an interest in Meltham is welcome to take part, from Monday 30 September to Saturday 26 October 2024. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Attend a community workshop
Join in one of the workshops to discuss your ideas and concerns with fellow residents, Meltham Town Council, local volunteers and council staff.
  • Take part online
Share your thoughts by completing the Ask Meltham online questionnaire
  • Request a paper questionnaire:
If you’d prefer to complete a paper questionnaire, please email Julie.McDowell@kirklees.gov.uk

Find out all you need to know by visiting the Ask Meltham 2024 webpage.

How local people are shaping Meltham

Five years ago, Ask Meltham 2019 gathered valuable insights from people in Meltham, Helme and Wilshaw about their local area. Since then, lots of projects have already been implemented, based on local people’s priorities, creating revitalised public spaces and flourishing community projects. Ask Meltham 2024 is an opportunity to assess how these developments have impacted the community and to identify current priorities. New people and businesses have also moved to the area during this time, and the organisers welcome everyone’s involvement in shaping their town.

Meltham Town Council Mayor, David Haigh said:

“We urge all residents to take part in Ask Meltham 2024. Your input is invaluable in shaping the future of our community. Whether you attend a workshop, complete the questionnaire online or via paper copy, your voice matters. Together, we can build a brighter future for Meltham.”

Looking ahead

What citizens tell us by taking part in Ask Meltham 2024 will help to shape future projects and initiatives, making sure that Meltham remains a great place to live, work and visit.
