Remembrance Sunday parades and civic services to pay respects to the fallen
Respects will be paid as we hold our annual Civic Parades and Remembrance Sunday services.
People are invited to the two Civic events that will take place in Huddersfield and Dewsbury on 10 November.
Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Nosheen Dad, said:
“Our Civic Remembrance Sunday events are a time of reflection, gratitude, and unity when we pause to acknowledge the courage and dedication of those who have served, and are currently serving, in the armed forces.
“As we remember the courageous people who protect our country, we should also remember the families of those serving in the armed forces. Their sacrifices and support for their loved ones should not go unnoticed
“Our Civic events help ensure that the legacy of those who served is preserved for future generations. Through our stories, our ceremonies, and our acts of remembrance, we keep their memory alive.”
Civic Services
The Huddersfield Service of Remembrance will be held in Huddersfield Parish Church at 10.50 am. The traditional remembrance service parade will start from Huddersfield Town Hall at 10.30 am and will re-form after the church service and return to the Town Hall where the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees will address the parade on Ramsden Street.
The Dewsbury Service of Remembrance will be held in Dewsbury Minister at 10.30am. The parade will start from Dewsbury Town Hall at 10.20 am and will re-form after the service and return to the Memorial Gardens on Longcauseway for a wreath-laying service. The Mayor of Kirklees will address the parade.
Armistice Day commemorations, on 11 November, are being organised by individual organisations with people encouraged to observe the two-minute silence wherever they may be at 11am.
