Selection of photos from the construction works from the Holmfirth Town Centre Action Plan.

Here is the latest from our improvement scheme in Holmfirth.

What’s been happening?

Since work on the Holmfirth Town Centre Access Plan (HTCAP) began in March last year, significant progress has been made at Huddersfield Road Car Park and on the pathways and highways through the centre.

Victoria Street, Huddersfield Road and Towngate

To create better accessibility, including widening pathways along Victoria Street and using tactile paving at the pedestrian crossing point.

Pavements are being laid with Yorkstone and new kerbs are being put in place.

Tactile paving has been installed along Huddersfield Road. Tactile paving is bumpy and often a different colour to the surrounding pavement to it can be identified easier. It helps people who are visually impaired identify potential hazards and safe places to cross.

Excavation of footway and kerbs on one side of Town Gate Road is taking place. The work is expected to take around four weeks to complete.

To avoid further disruption, overnight work was undertaken at the entrance of the Council Office car park. There is new kerbing, drainage and surfacing. Short stay parking is now available whilst Huddersfield Road Car Park remains closed.

The old market hall has now been demolished, and pilling work continues onsite.

Coming up next

The next few months will see further works along the footpaths on Towngate. Nightwork is expected to remove the traffic island at the bottom of Dunford Road and Hollowgate will be removed.

Shop local

Holmfirth town centre and its independent shops, cafes and bars remain open throughout the works. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we make improvements.
