How Kurtis became a valued employee
Kurtis walked into the REAL Employment office with a firm handshake and a smile, eager to meet his job coach. He had dedicated a great deal of time to finding paid employment, his motivation was clear, and his job coach was determined to help him succeed.
Kurtis, who has a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration, was made redundant from his previous employer. He had started searching for a new role straight away. But, despite his best efforts, he hadn’t secured any interviews.
His job coach helped him update his CV and supported him with application forms, he was soon invited to some interviews.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t initially offered a job. Undeterred Kurtis worked with his job coach to improve his interview technique. Together they practiced giving concise responses and slowing down his speech.
The team then contacted a local solicitors’ firm, XYZ Law, where Kurtis had previously been turned down for a role. They highlighted Kurtis’s potential and secured him a one-day work trial. Kurtis really impressed them and was offered the job!
Three months into his role, Kurtis had settled in well. His positive impact was reflected in his appraisal, with colleagues praising his communication skills and time management. Kurtis described the experience as ‘absolutely remarkable,’ restoring his confidence. He now aspires to expand his role, shadowing paralegals and contributing to digital marketing. His managers are enthusiastic about exploring these options, recognising Kurtis’s potential.
Mollie Wright, HR Manager at XYZ Law said:
“Kurtis has been a great addition to the team—he is committed, reliable, and punctual. He approaches his work with a positive attitude and is always willing to learn and take on new tasks. His contribution has been valuable, and we’re pleased to have him on board.”
