There are loads of cycling events coming in April for families and adults looking to start cycling or to build their confidence on a bike.
See what’s coming up and get involved!
Family cycling events
Come along to join these free family cycling sessions for children and parents/carers.
Beginners of any age welcome, along with those wanting to improve skills and confidence.
Crossley Fields Junior and Infant School, Mirfield
Sessions are running every day between 9am – 2pm, from 7 April until 11 April.
You can either bring your own bike or borrow one on the day.
Book your place on the Easter Holiday family cycling lessons.
Bike repairs
Dr Bike will also be there to fix any squeaky brakes, make adjustments and demonstrate general bike maintenance – all free of charge.
Bike Register
West Yorkshire Police and Bike Register will also be at Crossley Fields Junior School on 8 and 9 of April. Bring your bike to register it on the National Cycle Database for free which helps prevent bike theft and recover stolen bikes.

Slaithwaite Fire Station, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield
Sessions are offered to separate age groups to provide the best tuition. Grown-ups will get a chance to ride at every session!

Monday 14 April and Tuesday 15 April.
Sessions for children aged 8 – 11 years
Wednesday 16 April and Thursday 17 April.
Bike repairs
Got a bike that needs some TLC? Bring it down on Monday 14 April or Thursday 17 April and a qualified mechanic will do their best to get it back up and running. Bike maintenance service offered on a first-come, first-served basis during session times.
Bike Register
West Yorkshire Police and Bike Register will also be at Slaithwaite Fire Station on Wednesday 16 April between 10am – 12pm. Bring your bike to register it on the National Cycle Database for free which helps prevent bike theft and recover stolen bikes.

Greenhead Park Family Fun and Wellness Day
Friday 11 April between 11am – 3pm.
There is going to be lots to see and do at Greenhead’s Family Fun Day! Come along to…
- Learn to ride a bike and build your cycling skills
- Join the adult e-bike trials (18+)
- Register your bike to deter bike thieves
- Bring your bike along for minor repairs
- See the smoothie bike in action!
No need to book, it’s an open event for families to come along to throughout the day!
Tolson Memorial Museum, Huddersfield
If you fancy trying an e-bike out, come along to the Tolson Museum on 14 and 21 April where EPIKS (Environmental Projects in Kirklees) will be offering free trials with their range of electric bikes.
Riders must be over 18.
The 45-minute session includes familiarising yourself with the bike, fitting your helmet and making sure you feel comfortable and confident to start riding.
EPIKS qualified cycling instructor will then take you for a spin around the grounds.
Bring all your e-bike and cycling related questions. EPIKs are full of knowledge, expertise and are passionate about building people’s confidence so they can start cycling.

Batley and Spen Valley Active Travel Hub launch
Join EPIKS for their exciting launch day event for their brand-new active travel community hub in Batley and Spen Valley.
Meet at Market Place in Batley between 10am – 3pm on 26 April.
The launch event will include:
- E-bike test rides – led by an experienced instructor
- Dr Bike workshop – get your bike checked and minor fixes done
- WY Police Bike Register – keep your bike secure with the Neighbourhood Policing Team
- Information and advice to help you get around your area actively, by walking, cycling and wheeling more. Get your questions answered.
- Share your tips – share how you travel actively around Batley & Spen Valley.
