Vehicle Seized in the Fight Against Fly Tipping
We have confiscated a van that was involved in multiple fly-tipping incidents in Huddersfield.
The vehicle is connected to a person who advertises on social media as a registered waste removal carrier. It was confiscated on Thursday 27 March from an address in Birkby, by our Environmental Enforcement Officers and West Yorkshire Police. The individual will now be questioned about the offences.
The Ford Transit van was linked to three fly-tipping incidents reported within the previous ten days where waste was dumped in Thurstonland, Golcar, and Huddersfield Town Centre.
Councillor Munir Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways said:
“Fly tipping harms our communities and green spaces, so I want to assure Kirklees residents that we take this issue very seriously. Our enforcement teams are committed to holding to account those responsible for illegal waste disposal.
“Residents should always ask for a Waste Transfer Note when using a registered waste carrier. This document is vital as it verifies the final destination of waste and protects the customer from potential fines if waste is illegally dumped.”
For the 2023/24 year, local authorities in England dealt with 1.15 million fly-tipping incidents.
Since the beginning of 2025, our dedicated fly-tipping team has cleared over 1000 incidents to date.
