Championing accessibility with new Easy Read guidance

We’re proud to launch a new initiative aimed at making information more accessible for everyone in the community. As part of our ongoing commitment to inclusion, we have published Easy Read guidance to help local businesses and organisations communicate more clearly with people who have learning disabilities, cognitive impairments, or low literacy levels.

How the Easy Read guidance can help your organisation

The guidance, now available on the Kirklees Council website, offers practical tips and examples for creating Easy Read content. This includes using plain language, clear layouts, and supportive images to ensure that essential information is understandable to all.

Cllr Nosheen Dad, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Corporate:

“Accessibility is about more than just ramps and lifts—it’s about making sure everyone can access the information they need to live, work, and thrive in Kirklees. We encourage all local businesses and organisations to explore the Easy Read guidance and take steps to make their communications as inclusive as possible.”

Organisations that adopt Easy Read practices are not only supporting equality—they’re improving the customer experience and building trust with their customer community.

Accessible Awareness Campaign

Each month we will spotlight a different accessibility topic as part of our Accessibility Awareness Campaign series. This month’s focus on Easy Read is a call to action for businesses, charities, and public services to review how they share information and ensure no one is left behind.
