Kirklees’ first ceramics festival comes to Colne Valley

‘Clay at the Cut’, our very first ceramics festival here in Kirklees, will be celebrated in Marsden on Sunday 19 October!

The festival will run between 10am and 4:30pm at the North of England Centre for Arts & Music (based at Standedge Visitor Centre) in conjunction with the nearby Clay Mill in Slaithwaite.

This festival is for everyone – whether you’re a maker, a collector or a curious newcomer.  As well as a wide variety of stalls from independent ceramic artists, ‘Clay at the Cut’ will offer fun family-friendly activities, live music and local artisan food.

What’s at the festival?

There will be lots of opportunities to enjoy and to purchase beautiful ceramics and artwork, supporting sustainable small businesses and our local creative economy.  Around two dozen creators from right across the north of England will be showcased, exhibiting their creations and their unique artistic styles.

But ‘Clay at the Cut’ is also about community and inspiring creativity beyond the ceramics industry.  It will also give a glimpse into the strong community surrounding modern-day ceramics, clay and pottery, and give more people a chance to explore it.

How has this festival been organised?

We’ve commissioned this event using funding from the government’s PACE (Participation in the Arts & Creative Economy) programme.

The festival is being led by colleagues from the Clay Mill – a working ceramics studio in nearby Slaithwaite, which offers not just workspaces but lots of tuition and technical support.  The Clay Mill have teamed up with the North of England Centre for Music & Arts to host this event in Marsden.
