Kirklees Library Adventures – the next journey begins
Exciting new themes and activities for children have now gone live across libraries in Kirklees!
They come under the Library Adventures programme – our highly popular initiative to boost literacy skills for 4 to 11-year-olds and encourage a lifelong love of reading.
Simply collect a pack from your local library to enter a whole world of fun. The activities are diverse and creative, as well as highlighting books which are sure to enthral young readers.
The newly launched themes include Superhero Me, Green Guardian, Spooky, Black History Month and Brix and Blox. Library Adventures is FREE and has proved a big hit with children across Kirklees.
Cllr Amanda Pinnock, Cabinet member for Communities and Environment, said:
“This is a fantastic and rewarding scheme for 4 to 11-year-olds, as well as their families.
“Taking our children on a literary journey, where they follow the themes and use their imagination on a wide range of activities, is not only enjoyable but can bring major, long-term benefits.
“Younger children develop an early interest in reading for pleasure, slightly older children can build on existing skills and there’s also interactive fun for reluctant readers.
“Literacy skills improve our children’s outcomes and help their academic achievements. We’re proud of Library Adventures and the difference it is making to young lives.”
Once you have a library card and your Library Adventures pack, the quest can begin. Library cards are available at any Kirklees library or you can apply online.
