Bin collections will continue as normal right up until Christmas Eve, with an extra collection on Friday 19 December for households who will miss their collection on Christmas Day (25 December).

There will be no bin collections between Monday 29 December and Friday 2 January allowing our crews to enjoy a well-earned festive break.

When your bins will be collected over Christmas

Bins will be emptied as normal between Monday 22 and Wednesday 24 Dec. There will be no collections on Thursday 25 December (Christmas Day).

If your bin was due to be emptied on 25 December, it will be emptied on Friday 19 December instead. You can check which bin to put out on the manage your bins page.

When your bins will not be collected

There will be no bin collections at all on Monday 29, Tuesday 30, Wednesday 31 December, Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January. This pause gives our crews time for a well-earned festive break.

When collections restart

Collections will start again on Monday 5 January 2026.

We’ll pick up where we left off. So if your final December collection was a grey bin, your first January collection will be a green bin.

Excess waste and extra cardboard

Did you know you can recycle aerosols in your green bin? See what goes where when it comes to household waste.

• You can leave up to three tied bags of general waste next to your grey bin on your first grey bin collection day in January.
• Flattened cardboard can be left next to your green bin for your first recycling collection.
• Please remove all Styrofoam and plastic packaging from cardboard before recycling.
• Extra waste and cardboard will only be collected during these first grey and green collections in January.

Household Waste Recycling Centres

Kirklees HWRCs will follow their usual Christmas opening hours. They will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and open as normal on all other days.
