  • Leaf
  • Feather
  • Spider web
  • Tree
  • Bird

Make a tasty meal

Why not get the children involved with making some tasty food for all the family?

Children love to help with cooking and baking! They can chop and mix the ingredients while you chat about what you are doing.

Gardening

You don’t need to be green-fingered to have a grow! Gardening and growing your own ingredients is a great way to get kids to try new foods or enjoy the delicious taste of home-grown goodness. A packet of seeds, some empty plastic pots, a little compost and a sunny windowsill is all you need! Pick up some seeds from the nearest garden centre or supermarket and let your kids choose what they’d like to grow. Have fun planting up and encourage them to water daily, you could even keep a growth diary.

Arts and crafts using everyday items

5,4,3,2,1 blast off! Your child’s imagination can be fired by using large and smaller boxes to create a car, a fire engine, a house, or a ship! A box large enough for your child to climb into might need nothing more than imagination to be anything in the world.

Schools Out

Activities funded through the Department for Education’s Holiday Activities and Food programme, together with low cost paid for places for families in Kirklees.

Youth Power Week at MakerWorld – young people get creative in Huddersfield this February half term

MakerWorld, an initiative from The Children’s Art Gallery, is offering courses for young creatives this February half term, with a week of hands-on workshops with professional musicians, filmmakers and sculptors in the heart of Huddersfield.

Running from 16–20 February 2026, the MakerWorld Youth Power Week, supported by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Fund, will give teenagers a chance to learn new skills, make art and connect with local artists in a friendly, creative town-centre environment.

The week kicks off on 16 and 17 February in the Piazza Centre with a film-making workshop with Studio Bokehgo. Budding directors can work alongside local filmmaker John Slemensek to gain hands-on experience of all areas of filmmaking.

On 18 and 19 February, artist Mick Kirkby-Geddes will lead workshops where participants can experiment with metalwork and welding to create their own small-scale steel sculptures. You can also go backstage at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on 18 Feb.

Music-lovers can join Jam Factory for music production workshops on 18 and 20 February. Led by a professional musician and producer, these sessions will introduce the essentials of digital music-making, from beat-building to mixing and recording.
