Holmfirth Town Centre Access Plan update – March 2026

Here is the latest from our improvement scheme in Holmfirth town centre. The essential work is part of the Holmfirth Blueprint and aims to create a more accessible town centre for residents, businesses and visitors.

Recent and upcoming works

Hollowgate

Hollowgate is really starting to come together.

Along the shopfront side, brand new Yorkstone paving and kerbs are now in place, giving the street a high-quality finish that fits beautifully with Holmfirth’s character.  The footpath has been fully rebuilt too, creating a smoother, safer route for everyone.

Behind the scenes, important groundwork is done as well. New drainage channels and wider drainage improvements are now complete, delivering a more reliable system that will help protect the area in the long term.

Work is moving ahead at pace along the riverside of Hollowgate.

Drainage improvements are well underway and new kerbs, Yorkstone paving and bollards are on track to be completed in March.  You can really start to see the difference now, with the new materials giving the area a strong, high-quality finish that suits the setting.

To allow the work to be carried out safely, Hollowgate will remain closed to vehicles until the end of March.  Emergency access maintained and pedestrians can continue to use the route at all times.

It’s great to see the progress taking shape and there’s more to come.

Car park and events space

Big progress behind the scenes here.

Excavation works are complete and the structural reinforcement is now in place, creating the foundations for what comes next. Concrete pours are due to begin shortly, marking the next major phase in developing the new car park and flexible events space.

It’s a key milestone and a clear sign that this part of the project is moving forward at pace.

Bridge

Preparation work is in place to safely move forward with the bridge demolition.

A crash deck has been installed within the river channel. This is temporary safety platform that protects workers, catches any falling debris and allows workers to move cross the site while work is carried out above.

Progress has been affected at times by the weather. Sustained rainfall, higher river levels and strong currents have all had an impact. Throughout this, safety remains the absolute priority for everyone on site.

Weekend working

To help keep the project on track and recover time lost to weather and site conditions, contractors will also be working at weekends.

This will help maintain momentum and move us closer to completing the next phases of work.

Abuse of construction workers is not ok

Our construction teams are here to deliver important improvements for the town. They deserve to do their jobs without facing abuse, aggression or intimidation of any kind.

This behaviour will not be tolerated.

We ask everyone to show patience and respect while work is taking place, particularly during periods of difficult weather and disruption. A simple bit of understanding goes a long way.

Thank you to the many people who continue to support the team and recognise the hard work going into delivering this scheme.
