No Overall Control in Kirklees following local elections

Results have now been declared for all 23 wards in the Kirklees election held on Thursday 7 May 2026.

No single party has secured a majority of seats and Kirklees Council remains in No Overall Control.

All Kirklees councillors will meet on Wednesday 20 May for their Annual Council Meeting. At that meeting, councillors will be asked to elect a Leader of the Council and make appointments to other key posts.

The composition of the council is as follows (compared to the composition of the council before the election):

Reform: 29 seats [+29]

Independent and others: 14 seats [-2]

Green: 12 seats [+8]

Conservative: 9 seats [-7]

Liberal Democrat: 5 seats [-4]

Labour: 0 [-23]

Vacancy: 0 seats [-1]

Turnout across Kirklees was 42.5%.
