Interim arrangements in place at Kirklees Council
Kirklees Council’s Annual Council Meeting continued on Wednesday 28 May after being adjourned on 20 May.
No candidate for Leader of the Council was able to achieve a majority of votes cast at tonight’s meeting.
The council’s Constitution sets out what happens in these circumstances. The Chief Executive will temporarily take the decisions necessary to maintain the safe and lawful operation of the council. This would be done in consultation with the leaders of the council’s political groups. It is an interim arrangement to make sure the council continues to operate. It does not replace formal political leadership
Day-to-day council services for residents will continue as normal.
Councillors did agree appointments to several committees and panels that help oversee council services and decision-making.
The appointments include:
Appeals Panel: Cllr Bramwell
Corporate Governance & Audit Committee: Cllr Amjad
District Wide Planning Committee: Cllr O’Leary
Licensing & Safety Committee: Cllr Howard
Overview & Scrutiny Management Committee: Cllr Holbrook

Statutory Officer Dismissal Committee: Cllr Wood
Children’s Scrutiny Panel: Cllr Vickers
Environment and Climate Change Scrutiny Panel: Cllr Moughtin
