Volunteer for next year’s Tour de France Femmes
Next year, the Tour de France Femmes – the world’s biggest women’s bike race – comes to Kirklees!
The Grande Départ team, which manages the Tour de France whenever it hits the UK, is now looking for a total of 9,000 volunteers to help along the routes (which between them cover parts of Scotland, England and Wales), including the Kirklees stretch for the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.
Want to volunteer?
We’re looking for volunteers to help out on the Kirklees stretch of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, passing through Kirklees in summer 2027.
The volunteers will officially be known as ‘Joy Makers’, named after the Grande Départ’s Joy social impact programme – watch out for more info and opportunities through the Joy project in the run-up to the races! If you choose to get involved and volunteer, you’ll be helping to bring the joy of cycling to fans and communities in Kirklees and beyond, and making sure our section of the sport’s most iconic races runs seamlessly.
You must be 16 or over, and no prior volunteering experience is needed. There will be a few different volunteering roles on offer, so you can support Britain’s best-attended sporting event in a way that suits you.
The volunteering portal is now open at letourgb.com/volunteer
How could this help your career?
If you’re aged between 16-25, you’ll also be eligible to join Joy’s Readiness for Work scheme. This scheme is all about providing free employability skills training and career-focused mentoring to young people, whatever sector you’re looking to start your career in. Coupling this with volunteering experience should help you get a really well-rounded and practical work experience offer for future employers.
Ritzi Chinyanganya, TV presenter and broadcaster, says:
“I wouldn’t be where I am today if I wasn’t a volunteer when I was in my teens. I was a media volunteer, and now I’m working in media – I’m living proof that volunteering can lead to something amazing. I’m so excited for everyone to get involved – it will truly be an unforgettable experience.
“Knowing what you want to do when you’re young can be intimidating, and it’s also unprecedentedly hard to get work experience at the moment. Applying to be a Joy Maker can help you explore new opportunities and navigate your career path, all whilst being part of making history. Whoever you are, whatever your age or your background – this opportunity is open to everyone over 16 – if you want to bring joy, we want you.”
Don’t forget, if you’re currently studying a creative course in Kirklees, you could design the official posters for the Tour de France Femmes! Read our latest article on the competition to find out more.
