Celebrating 374 years of transforming young lives as council calls for more to foster

Foster carers

Foster carers who are transforming the lives of children and young people across Kirklees have been celebrated at a special event.

We recently organised an event which brought together foster carers from across the district to thank them for the dedication, love and stability they provide to children and young people.

There was plenty to celebrate, with carers representing an impressive, combined total of 374 years’ fostering experience.

As well as recognising foster carers reaching major milestones from 5 to 25 years’ service, we also welcomed newcomers who have started their fostering journey this year to the team.

Families enjoyed a celebratory meal complete with party games, entertainment and activities. Sonic the Hedgehog and the popular K-Pop characters also paid a special appearance, bringing some extra fun for the children.

Tom Brailsford, Executive Director for Children and Families, said:

“It’s a pleasure to bring our amazing family of foster carers together so we can celebrate and thank them for all they do.

“Every day, foster carers provide love, dedication and support to local children and young people. They help the children in their care feel valued and safe, giving them the confidence to be themselves. This provides a strong and reliable foundation for them to build on as they grow.

“Fostering is a deeply rewarding and life-changing experience for everyone involved, offering new opportunities and experiences.

“I hope others will be inspired to consider fostering.”

We are looking for more people to become foster carers and make a difference.

Foster carers provide safe, stable and nurturing homes, helping children to feel secure, build confidence and go on to thrive. For many, fostering leads to lasting relationships, with some carers maintaining close bonds with the children and families they have supported.

We provide full training and our foster carers have access to ongoing support from both professionals and peers, plus a competitive pay and benefits package.

You can hear from real foster carers as they share their personal experiences on our website, or find more information about fostering online.
