Holmfirth Town Centre Access Plan update – June 2026
Here is the latest update on our improvement scheme in Holmfirth town centre as we continue delivering the Holmfirth Blueprint and creating a more accessible town centre for residents, businesses and visitors.
Recent and upcoming works
Hollowgate
Hollowgate has reopened to pedestrians and vehicles. New drainage, kerbs and Yorkstone paving have been installed, and riverside bollards are now in place to help create a safer environment for pedestrians.
Upcoming road closure
Hollowgate will close to motor vehicles from 12am on Monday 22 June and will reopen at 6pm on Thursday 25 June to enable the next stage of works on the bridge to continue safely. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all time and businesses will be open as usual.

Huddersfield Road
Huddersfield Road and the junction of Towngate, Hollowgate and Rotcher Road have been resurfaced and relined.
Some resurfacing and kerbing work near the car park entrance will be completed during the final phase of the project. This approach helps avoid damage from construction traffic while other work continues.
An electric cycle hub and shelter is now in place opposite the car park. The three new chargers are expected to become operational in August 2026.
Car park and bridge
Work on the new bridge and car park continues to make good progress. Foundations and supporting structures for the bridge, boundary walls, river access steps and access ramp have now been completed.
The next major milestone will be the installation of the bridge beams. Ten beams will be lifted into place using a large mobile crane during planned night-time operations. Once installed, work will begin on constructing the bridge deck.
