Estate Action Plans – Improving your communities
Our Homes & Neighbourhoods team have recently published Estate action plans across North and South Kirklees. We’ve been listening to what you have to say about your estates and taking action.
These plans have been developed, following feedback from tenants, residents, local councillors and our frontline teams, we can better understand what matters most in your neighbourhood. Our Estate Action Plans set out what that isn’t working, what’s changing, and how you can get involved in shaping your community.
What have we done this month?
Each ward has its own plan on our website that outlines the actions that are planned or have already been carried out. Most recently, we have held Team Action Days at Ouzelwell estate, in Dewsbury and The Crescent in Ravensthorpe.
These days of action are where the Homes & Neighbourhoods teams come together with community partners to address issues that have been raised on or around our estates. They can range from fly tipping, anti-social behaviour to general cleaning and maintenance of communal areas.
Improving the local environment in Ouzewell estate
The Estate Caretaking Team completed a Team Action Day on Wednesday 29 April 2026 to improve the local environment in Dewsbury specifically, Ouzelwell estate and Blacker Court off Ouzelwell Lane.
These areas were identified through feedback made to the Housing Management Officer following regular estate Inspections, and fly tipping concerns raised by a local Cllr to the Estate Caretaking Team.
Teams came together to pick up litter, remove fly tipping, cut back overgrown bushes and sweep the paths.
We completed 29 surveys with residents on the day to gather feedback on the action taken and identify any issues that need addressing.

Cleaning communal areas in The Crescent
On Wednesday 13 May the Estate Caretaking Team completed a Team Action Day with multiple partners such as, the Police, Safer kirklees and community plus to improve the local environment on our estates, specifically The Crescent estate and surrounding areas.
These areas were identified through feedback made to the Housing Management Officer following estate inspections and information shared with partners including Safer Kirklees and the new dedicated Team within Dewsbury Neighbourhood Policing Team for the local area.
Our aim is to help areas feel cleaner and safer, whilst bringing residents together to create thriving communities. Working together, the Estate Caretaking Team, Housing Management, Safer Kirklees, Community Plus and the Police engaged with residents, picked up litter, removed fly tipping, cut back overgrown bushes, removed self-seeding plants and swept the paths.
The Police also attended a couple of weeks before this and tackled anti-social behaviour issues reported in the area, on the day they didn’t come across anymore issues to deal with at the time.
Housing Management, Safer Kirklees and Community Plus were door-knocking around The Crescent and gathering feedback on the works being completed by identifying any other problems in the area that need to be looked at.
We completed 19 surveys with residents on the day to gather feedback on the action taken and identify any issues that need addressing.
Every two weeks, we will be carrying out Team Action Days across Kirklees. As part of these we will be posting a calling card which includes a survey, how to report fly tipping and our services for getting rid of bulky waste.
The reason we want to share this information with residents is because these are continuous issues that have been highlighted to us across Kirklees, and we want to support by making estates feel safer, be more present and make sure we’re engaging with residents.
Working with Safer Kirklees, Community Plus and the Police, we want to clear up any rubbish in communal gardens fly-tipping, tackle anti-social behaviour, support with creating strong communities and address any concerns you may have. Take a look at the plans on the Estate action plans webpage.
We’d love to hear your feedback to guide us on how we can improve services in your community. Take the Customer feedback survey on our website.
