Planning permission has now been granted for Main Avenue, Cowlersley, marking a major milestone in plans to deliver much-needed affordable homes on council-owned land. 

The development will deliver 57 affordable homes for local people, helping to address housing need and provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes for individuals and families. The development forms part of our ambitious affordable housing programme, which aims to bring forward new affordable homes across the district.  

Creating a new community 

Alongside the new homes, the plans include public green space, landscaping and supporting infrastructure, helping to create an attractive and sustainable new community. 

The development is also expected to bring wider benefits to the local area, including investment in local infrastructure and support for the local economy through construction activity. 

Working together 

We are delivering the scheme through a partnership with Thirteen Group and Strata Homes, bringing together council-owned land, investment and development expertise to help meet local housing need. 

The development forms part of a wider programme of affordable housing schemes being brought forward across Kirklees and the region. 

What happens next? 

With planning permission now secured, the project can progress towards the next stage of delivery, bringing the 57 affordable homes and associated community benefits a step closer.
