Huddersfield Library Hub prepares to move into its new home at Our Cultural Heart

Huddersfield Library Hub. We are: Moving

Exciting changes are underway as Huddersfield Library Hub and Victoria Lane Local Studies Library prepare to move into their new home at Our Cultural Heart.

The new hub will open its doors to the public on Monday 21 September.

The move marks a major milestone for both the library service and the wider Our Cultural Heart programme, brining existing services together in a welcoming, vibrant and accessible space at the heart of Huddersfield town centre.

To make the move possible

Existing library services based at the hub in Civic Centre 3, and Victoria Lane will close to the public from Sunday 30 August. This will allow staff to pack thousands of books, collections and other resources and move them to their new home in time for the opening in September.

Where can I access services during the move?

Anyone who would normally visit our Huddersfield Library hub in Civic Centre 3, or Victora Lane looking for library services including books, e-books and magazines is asked to use an alternative library, or online library services, between 30 August and 21 September.

For a list of library locations and opening times in Kirklees visit www.kirklees.gov.uk/libraries or contact Kirklees Libraries on 01484 414868.

People will be able to continue to visit the hub at Civic Centre 3 during this time to use other services, like:

  • Use public computers to access council services
  • Get housing advice and support
  • Return Carephone equipment using the designated drop-off box
  • Return books using the designated drop-off box.

Councillor Michael Simmons, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Communities, said:

“This is an exciting moment as we move closer to opening the doors at the new Huddersfield Library Hub. Libraries are places where people can read, relax, learn new skills, discover ideas, access support and spend time together.

“We know there will be some temporary disruption in preparation for the move, and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience. The result will be a fantastic new library that will serve Huddersfield for many years to come.”

Our Cultural Heart

The Library Hub is one of the first major new facilities to open as part of Our Cultural Heart and we can’t wait to welcome residents in just a few weeks’ time.

Alongside Queensgate Square, the Library Hub will create a welcoming destination for learning, culture, creativity and community in the heart of the town.
