A new chapter for Huddersfield Library
Exciting changes are on the way for Huddersfield Library as we prepare to move into our new home at Our Cultural Heart. Whilst we move, here are the interim arrangements for customers effective from Sunday 30 August through to the opening of our brand new Our Cultural Heart Library on Monday 21 September.
Customers will still be able to access library services, information, and support at other libraries across Kirklees.

Services available during the closure
Although some of our Library Huddersfield Library Hub services won’t be available while we move, many services will still be available.
At Civic Centre 3
You can continue to:
- Return library books using the dedicated book return box.
- Return Carephones equipment using the dedicated drop box.
- Use public access computers and telephones to access council services.
- Access planning and personal search software using designated planning computers.
- Use the self-scan station.
Client Financial Affairs (CFA)
Customers whose money is managed by Kirklees Council, where pre-payment cards are lost and the customer needs access to emergency funds via Emergency Top-Up Payment Card – this support will remain available at Civic Centre 3 during the move period.
To report a lost card, please contact the Client Financial Affairs Team on 01484 222018.
Local Welfare Provision
Customers who are eligible for energy vouchers but don’t have access to email, can have their vouchers printed at any Library Hub across Kirklees. Residents who are unable to travel to an alternative Library Hub can continue to access this support at Civic Centre 3 during the move period. To arrange collection please contact the LWP Team who will advise further on 01484 414782.
Please note both Client Financial Affairs and Local Welfare Provision support continue from new site at Our Cultural Heart from Monday 21 September.
Library services available elsewhere
All other Kirklees libraries will continue to offer a wide range of services, including:
- Borrowing and returning books
- Collecting reserved items
- Joining the library
- Accessing online library resources with staff support
- Printing and photocopying
- Study space
- Newspapers and magazines
- Family history and local studies support
- Community events and activities

Accessing other council services
Support with services such as Blue Badge applications, disabled and senior bus passes, and Town Hall ticket purchases will continue to be available through alternative locations and contact channels during the closure period.
