The Mayor receives the first Poppy as 2026 campaign is launched

The Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Karen Allison, received the first poppy in Huddersfield as the Royal British Legion launched its 2026 Remembrance campaign.

Communities across Kirklees will come together on Remembrance Sunday, 8 November, and Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November, to remember and honour those who have given their lives in service to their country, and all who have been affected by conflict.

Cllr Karen Allison, Mayor of Kirklees:

“I am proud to support the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal and to receive the first poppy on behalf of the people of Kirklees.

“As we approach Remembrance, we pause to remember the courage, service and sacrifice of those who have served our country, as well as the families who have supported them through generations.

“The poppy remains a powerful symbol of remembrance, gratitude and hope. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy today and the sacrifices that helped secure them.

“Every donation to the Poppy Appeal helps the Royal British Legion continue its invaluable work supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families when they need it most.

“I encourage everyone across Kirklees to wear their poppy with pride and, if they are able, support this year’s appeal.”

Royal British Legion Support

The Royal British Legion continues to support members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families.

The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s largest annual fundraising campaign and plays a vital role in supporting the Armed Forces community throughout the year. This year’s campaign focuses on how the charity provides expert advice and practical support to veterans and their families when they face hardship, such as homelessness, debt, PTSD and addiction.

By supporting the Poppy Appeal and donating, you help the RBL provide essential services to those in need within the Armed Forces community. Find out more about the Poppy Appeal
