Seasons of culture grants for culture and nature projects
Kirklees is set for a summer of exciting, community‑driven events thanks to new funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
We have launched a new grant programme offering funding for creative projects that help local communities connect with culture, creativity and the natural environment.
The Seasons of Culture – Nature fund will support cultural activities taking place across Kirklees throughout summer 2026.
It forms part of the wider West Yorkshire Seasons of Culture initiative, funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
How much funding is available
Grants ranging from £500 to £24,000 are available to third‑sector organisations, grassroots community groups and registered creative businesses. This includes charities, CICs, social enterprises, sole traders and freelancers.
The programme aims to increase participation in cultural activity. In particular among people who face barriers to engagement, while also promoting environmental sustainability and greener ways of working.
Funding will support a wide range of activity, from outdoor events and exhibitions to community workshops and creative projects. Seasons of Culture – Nature focuses on bringing people together to connect with the natural world through creativity, inspired by local landscapes, green and blue spaces.
Applicants must demonstrate how their project will support sustainability goals. This could be by encouraging active travel or contributing to the local visitor economy. All funded activity must take place in Kirklees and be completed by 21 December 2026.
Rachel Spencer-Henshall Executive Director for Public Health and Corporate Resources said:
“This programme is a great chance to support the amazing creativity we have here in Kirklees, while celebrating the natural spaces that make our area so special. We’d love to see ideas from creative organisations and artists across the district — anything that inspires people, brings communities together and helps us work in a more sustainable way. We’re really looking forward to seeing the project ideas people submit, especially those that deliver free, inclusive events for everyone to enjoy.”
